  • Tunbridge Wells-based Tech PR agency delivers a transformative campaign for high performance colocation provider, Kao Data.

Tunbridge Wells, Kent, 7th October 2021: Spa Communications, a specialist in PR, content marketing and social media for data centre and digital infrastructure organisations, has been awarded ‘Corporate and Business Communications Campaign’ at the CIPR PRide South of England Awards 2021. The award recognises the work of Spa Communications for long-term client Kao Data, the developer and operator of high performance data centres for enterprise, cloud, HPC and AI. An online virtual awards ceremony celebrated the most notable achievements and projects from within the PR and communications sectors across the South of England and Channel Islands during the past two years.

Spa Communications was tasked to support Kao Data’s brand transformation and go-to-market strategies led by VP of Marketing, Adam Nethersole and VP of Sales, Spencer Lamb. The campaign objectives included helping Kao Data target, engage and reinforce their positioning with a new audience within the high performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) communities, while reimagining the brand and communicating its technical capabilities to key decision-makers.

The campaign, which leveraged PR and social media, resulted in multiple new customer wins from within the target sectors, the pinnacle of which saw Kao Data become host to the UK’s fastest supercomputer, NVIDIA’s Cambridge-1. This pioneering AI supercomputer is dedicated to life-saving healthcare research, vaccine identification and disease prevention. Furthermore, the PR and thought-leadership approach directly influenced customer decision-making to help secure substantial, multi-million-pound recurring revenues for Kao Data through new customer acquisitions, demonstrating an incredible, measurable return on investment.

“The past twelve months have seen a period of exponential growth for our organisation,” said Adam Nethersole, VP Marketing, Kao Data. “Spa has helped us reimagine, reposition and transform the perception of our brand, creating a clear, concise and relevant tone of voice that targets an entirely new sector of the industry. This campaign is a true example of how a consistent and relevant communications strategy can drive significant commercial success.”

Spa Communications Founder and Director, Damien Wells, commented: “I’m delighted for both Spa and Kao Data, to have been awarded Gold Winner for the CIPR PRide ‘Corporate and Business Communications Campaign’. This award is a real testament to the hard work that has been invested in this innovative client and demonstrates how collaboration, creativity and a focus on mutually shared goals can deliver transformative business outcomes.”

“The last few years have seen our agency undergo significant change,” he continued. “We have built alliances with some of the UK’s best universities, hired new team members and embraced a culture of developing and nurturing talent. This focus has been pivotal to the success of the business and to maintaining the high standard of work we deliver for clients. It will remain crucial to our strategy going forwards.”

The organisers of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) PRide Awards noted that at the heart of great success is a PR agency and client working in complete harmony. Spa and Kao Data had this in abundance, delivering a superb campaign with end audience and objectives in clear focus throughout.

“The campaign with Kao Data has been exhilarating and fast-paced from the word go,” added Spa Communications Account Director, Rory Flashman-Wells. “The client’s clear vision and guidance together with the Spa team’s relentless determination has enabled us to develop and execute our work quickly and effectively. I’m thrilled to see Spa become an award-winning agency for its work to help position Kao Data as the UK’s home for HPC and AI, and for our part in helping Kao Data become host of the UK’s most cutting edge supercomputer, Cambridge-1.”
